Quite a history on Coca-Cola in China on Wiki. Seems local distributors were trying their hand at phoneticizing the brand into Chinese characters. “Female horse stuffed with wax” was one example.

Coca-Cola executives consulted the finest Chinese scholars they could find and came up with four characters which meant, “Let the mouth rejoice”.
