I think that the establishment Dems certainly are looking hard at old Joe’s VP choice. Worst case for them is that Trump wins in November. They think that’s pretty likely,

Not a chance. Dems will be all fired up to GOTV to vote against Trump. Just like we were with Hillary on the ballot.
I don’t know ... they can’t possibly think Biden’s their best candidate to make a serious challenge to Trump, can they? If they really thought a Dem win likely, they’d put up an Obama 2.0-type candidate—young, energetic, and charismatic, pretty much the opposite of Joe. I still think he’s either a sacrificial lamb or a placeholder until after the election when they’ll invoke the 25th.
