First case suspected by COVID-19 in Costa Rica
March 5, 2020 . The Ministry of Health studies the first suspected case by Covid-19. This is a 52-year-old Costa Rican woman, a neighbor of the Canton of Pococí, who was in Italy and Tunisia and who arrived in the country on February 29 with no symptoms that match the case definition, starting later with the symptomatology.
The case is classified as suspicious after the respiratory panel (FilmArray) was negative today, ruling out that the symptoms are due to another type of respiratory virus.
The Health authorities activated all the isolation and care protocols for the patient, who remains isolated in her house. At the same time, the respective samples were taken in order to send them to the Costa Rican Institute for Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health (Incense) to carry out the test that discards or confirms the case.
