I think Italy might have the L type strain the more aggressive one. I hope that strain did not make it out of Wuhan.

my synopsis of the L & S types, from the article:

L - more aggressive - early stage Wuhan - 70% - decreased after Jan - symptoms easier to detect

S - less aggressive - later stage Wuhan - 30% - increased after Jan - symptoms less detectable; weaker & milder

The prevention & control done in Wuhan might explain the decrease in frequency of the L relative to the S in other places after the initial outbreak in Wuhan.
