After outscoring its opposition 25-0 at the 2020 Concacaf Womens Olympic Qualifying tournament and qualifying for the 2020 Olympics in Japan, the U.S. Womens National Team now embarks on an ambitious pre-Olympic preparation schedule, beginning with the 2020 SheBelieves Cup, Presented by Visa. The USA has participated in all six Olympic Games in which womens soccer has been contested, winning four gold medals (1996, 2004, 2008, 2012) and a silver (2000).

Can't Wait :)
Megan Rapinoe has caused a lot of disruption with her out-and-proud antics, but if objectionable behavior by an isolated player disqualifies an entire sport from your attention, what are you left with? Curling? I'll bet some of the curlers are gay too, but since all the good ones are Canadian, they're too good mannered to talk about it. You certainly couldn't watch the NBA, NFL, NHL, or any other team sport. Or are you ok with felons, thugs and rapists and only object to homosexuals?
I agree that celebrities, including actors and entertainers as well as athletes, should keep their private lives private. The public square was a lot less contentious when people were discrete. The double standard is alive and well, and this rule applies with especial force to women's sports, which should not be in the business of selling cheesecake even if you have an Alex Morgan (married and currently out on pregnancy leave) on the team.
The double standard is alive and well, and female athletes are well advised to keep their relationships private. Most of the USWNT players do. Most of them are discrete; most of them are straight; and very few of them will continue playing after they start their families. Just let 'em play.
Very welcome KC_Lion! :)
I was there that year and can tell you what 400,000 drunken race fans did. They broke into a very loud and prolonged chant of "We want Gomer, we want Gomer." That was Hoosier hospitality at its finest. Nabor's public conduct had always been impeccable. No one cared that he was gay. The world is mostly quite comfortable with go along to get along, as long as people just shut up and do their jobs, and "don't do it on the roadway and scare the horses." That applies to soccer as well as all other sports.
The executives of U.S. Soccer should be shot for forcing the U.S. Men's and Women's Teams both into gay pride kits a couple of years ago. But U.S. Soccer wasn't the only sporting body to offend in this regard. Athletes should not be conscripted into political campaigns. An American flag, ok, maybe, though that's really unnecessary. Anything more, no. The sporting federations should tell the SJW's and twitter mobs to take a flying leap.
“We want Gomer” did the job. Nabors was back the next year.
