I worked in China from October 1976 to April 1977. Worked in three locations from far south in Yunnan Province to far north in Manchuria.
Since then, I’ve always said that if American Chinese restaurants sold food like they sell in China, they’d be out of business by closing time tonight. Poor ingredients (understandable in the then-poor country), poor preparation (think of chopping up a chicken with a cleaver, bones and all), butter that wouldn’t melt in Hades, gamey male meat (probably uncastrated, I’m guessing). If it wasn’t for the construction company (Kellogg Continental) sending in food care packages, we would have all lost 50 pounds. As it was, it was non-stop runs for seven months.
That is beyond barbaric. Yet another reason to never visit China.
South Koreans are just as barbaric in their torture and cruelty to dogs and cats.
Barbarians.
Right and Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia weren’t barbaric for all the mass genocides they perpetrated on innocent men, women, and children? Where... Leningrad Siege, Russians resorted to eating cats and even other humans?
Ironically, Hitler was very stringent about animal rights and vegetarian himself.
Much of the eating habits described above is not due to some innate inadequacies, but largely the result of horrific set of societal and political conditions. China used to boast of one of the most refined and artistic cultures that was the envy of backwards Medieval Europe.
And modern-day Korea is largely Christianized, more technologically advanced than the U.S. and rapidly doing away with things like dog-meat consumption.
