Dont you have to get bit to get rabies?
Nope.

I have an acquaintance who heard a disturbance in the chicken pen. She ran in and was confronted with a skunk trying to kill a chicken. The skunk saw her and came at her. She tripped and fell and the skunk bit her on the leg.
She called for help and her husband and grown son came running. The men killed the skunk (I’m not sure how) and then they called the hospital. All three of them had to have the injections, fortunately not in the stomach, but traumatic enough. The skunk was tested and positive for rabies (there was rabies in the area).
The shot is 100% effective and they all survived...except the skunk.
The doctor said the skunk’s hissing created infected aerosol droplets.
