Whoopi was trying to say that Polanski was not guilty of actual forcible rape of the girl. She was probably alluding to the plea bargain to lesser charges which was being worked out in his case. That all became a different legal issue altogether, when he decided to leave the country rsther than face justice.

But Whoopi said it wasn’t “rape rape” in that he wasn’t convicted of forcible physical rape.
