As I was vacuuming the leaves off/outta the rocks I glanced at the vacuum and and yes, it is a Black And Decker. I say that because its a bit beat up, dirty and I had to replace the plug on the cord coming out of it. Not because of the unit but because the extension cords female plug the vacuum was plugged into melted???? And its old. How old I don't know but I guess at least 14 years old. And that brings me to a story I was going to post few months back but didn't?? Anyway.
In '68 the company I just went to work for wanted me to work at the customer site in Hamilton Ohio. We currently lived in Mt. Healthy but wasn't too happy with the house and so we bought a new mobile home and moved to Hamilton. One of the obvious things a mobile home needs is a skirt. So I bought a bunch a wood, sheeting, screws an electric drill and put it up. In '68.
A few months ago the wife needed some shelving taken down and put back up. Got the drill out and unscrewed this and that and screwed it back in. The same drill from '68! And yes, its a Black And Decker. And just before I started typing this in I went out and checked the electric mower I've had for at least nearly 14 years. Its also a Black And Decker. I'm in my late 70s and try to stay somewhat active but can't remember a lot of this and that. Like when, way back then, did I decide to buy Black And Decker this and that???? Wonder if their quality is still as good????
I really have no idea what you said, but personally, I avoid B&D.
You got this, Allen, and that! Me too!
We lived!
It’s all imported crap now.
FYI... DeWalt and Porter Cable are both owned by Black and Decker.
My friend in 1961 gave me a B&D drill, a set of drill bits and an extension cord as a wedding present 58 years ago.
I questioned his sanity until we moved into a new apartment.
After installing a zillion curtain rods, pictures, art work and other wall hanging things. I called him up and thanked him.
About 20 years later, after 3 other apartments and 3 new homes, the drill was still working.
My wife bought me a DeWalt drill and driver for inside and outside stuff she wanted hung, mounted or whatever.
One of our sons got the B&D, and it still works. He wants the DeWalt gear when I no longer need it.
And I forgot to add that after the work I got a Corona outta the fridge and poured a cold one. Got to get another six this week!!!!
Does Stanley fit in here some where ?
You are so evil.
You're such a rebel!
I have a couple old Black and Decker tools. My power miter saw is at least 25 years old.
About five years ago, a friend had a house fire. It took several months for insurance to release the house for rebuild. A bunch of guys from church went over to help clean out their belongings.
I found a five gallon pail, about half full of water. And a DeWalt 1/2” corded hammer drill. My buddy told me to throw it out. Just for kicks, I took it home. It worked. The first few uses it threw a bunch of rust out the vents but since then it’s worked perfectly.
My 1/4” drive corded drill is also Black and Decker
That’s great. Whenever we have to give wedding gifts, we generally go with a drill and other tools.
Sadly all hand tool are imported. Really disgusting. And Harbor Freight? What a cheap PLAN store front dump.
Cannot begin to tell you how many Mr. Coffee's I had before that that burnt out after a short while.
So B&D gets my vote.
Black and Decker used to be a first rate power tool maker. That company no longer exists. They are now just a mid market label for Stanley.
Other marketing labels are DeWalt, Craftsman, Porter Cable, MAC, Irwin, and of course, Stanley.
I would guess that the vac was a result of the Black and Decker purchase of GE’s small appliance business. That purchase explains the B&D toaster ovens at Walmart.
When wedding gifting it’s cash for now or tools forever.
Im currently in the throes of corona, but Ill be sober soon.
A Harbor Freight just opened up in our small town of Kerrville. someday might go in just to look.
Old school corded electric drills in general simply didn’t fail. I have a couple 40+ years old.
Sorry, I don’t like B&D. My first cordless drill was Black and Decker. Lasted maybe 2 years. My next was a Makita. 25+ years and a set of batteries later it was still working when the trigger switch quit and I’m replacing that.
B&D, IMHOP, is consumer level crap and nothing I would want to rely on.
