Doctors and other former health professionals could be brought out of retirement to help fight coronavirus if the UK outbreak dramatically worsens. Ministers have confirmed a series of contingency measures are being drawn up to cope with an escalation of the crisis into a pandemic, including considering broader measures to ensure the NHS can handle the added strain. The plans include a Dads Army style emergency registration of retired health professionals, as well as relaxing rules around school class sizes in case teachers are off ill or forced to self-isolate.
