There is no way to fully control a virus from spreading. We cannot hermetically seal ourselves off. We can mitigate but we cannot fully insulate. Many carriers are asymptomatic while they shed the virus. How do you fight that? For this reason, I’m sure it’s here in greater numbers than are being reported, as it is an issue with accurate testing/monitoring, and asymptomatic carriers have no reason to be tested and quarantined. Fact is, flu is far deadlier, and we have an (often ineffective) vaccine for the flu given every year to those who are willing to receive it. But people will freak out about coronavirus and the panic will hurt the economy in the short term. Eventually, coronavirus will be a regular seasonal issue, which we will be vaccinated against. Maybe next year at the earliest. We will learn to accept it and live with it — the economy will revert to its fundamentals.

It appears the flu is “far deadlier” only insofar as it has had a chance to infect and kill more so far.

COVID-19 at least now looks like it will end up with far more infections and deaths. Of course, let’s hope that is incorrect.
