Below is a link showing that the 60% + hand sanitizer is helpful.

Excerpts:
The antimicrobial activity of alcohols can be attributed to their ability to denature and coagulate proteins. The microorganisms cells are then lysed, and their cellular metabolism is disrupted. Alcohol solutions containing 60% to 95% alcohol are most effective. Notably, higher concentrations are less potent because proteins are not denatured easily in the absence of water.....
A study published in 2017 in the Journal of Infectious Diseases evaluated the virucidal activity of ABHS against re-emerging viral pathogens, such as Ebola virus, Zika virus (ZIKV), severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and determined that they and other enveloped viruses could be efficiently inactivated by both WHO formulations I and II (ethanol-based and isopropanol-based respectively). This further supports the use of ABHS in healthcare systems and viral outbreak situations.

The alcohol doesn’t go after the virus, it goes after the protective coating that holds the virus.
I was reading something where the FDA is trying to get Purell to not make claims that it prevents the spread of germs and viruses. But that is due to bureaucracy - the FDA doesn’t “approve” hand sanitizers. So according to the FDA logic - how can they make that claim if it hasn’t been approved?
See my post 101 for the effectivness on hand sanitizers for previous viruses like SARS and Mers.
So what is a good product to purchase? I Googled and found lots of product available in the UK, but didn’t find anything in the US. Got lots of hits for articles on hand hygiene in hospitals, but no specific product recommendations.
That’s just it, they can’t be recommended. I just buy the generic store brand - it is 70% alcohol. I’ve read where you need to rub it in as long as you would wash your hands - “happy birthday” song, 2x.
The Clorox wipes - use on small surfaces. The surface needs to stay damp for 4 minutes. On a standard table I’ll use 2 wipes. My wife uses them as cleaning wipes and will wipe down a bunch of stuff until it is too dirty. That is fine if you are just trying to make stuff look clean. Not good if you are trying to disinfect - it can actually spread the germs and viruses.
Spraying alcohol (70%+ I think) destroys the typical flu virus in something like 10 seconds! (I have that paper somewhere).
The enzymes in our skin breaks down the typical flu virus “shell” in 15 minutes or so and destroys it.
If 20% of people with it need hospitalization, it will overwhelm the hospital system in the US very quickly. Given how contagious it supposedly it is, we could have millions very sick soon. Of course, it could also mutate to be much more benign.
They are close to Travis AFB. Thats where the cruise ship evacuees were quarantined.
Thanks!
The untrustworthy thin data available shows a drop in the completed cases mortality (deaths/(deaths+recoveries). It has shown a pretty steady drop over the last month. On 1/27 it was 62.7%, the highest in the entire set, yesterday it was 7.8%!
Travis is about an hour from Sacramento (45 min on a good day). UC Davis at Davis, CA is about 20 min to Sac.
UC Davis hospital is on Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, not within the town of Davis where the university campus is.
We the new paper in #106. It is good and easy to understand. The “Discussion” section on p5 provides a good summary.
Lubarsky and Simmons said the patient was transferred to UC Davis from another Northern California hospital on Wednesday, Feb 19.
When the patient arrived, the patient had already been intubated, was on a ventilator, and given droplet protection orders because of an undiagnosed and suspected viral condition, the email said.
Yes, there are portable Digital XRAY machines...
