(CNN) — When it comes to novel coronavirus safety, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests facial hair be kept to a minimum so it fits within a facepiece respirator.

Side whiskers, soul patches, lampshades and handlebar mustaches are good to go, according to a CDC infographic. But styles like a stubble, beard, Dali and mutton chops, are not recommended because they are likely to interfere with a facepiece respirator.

Masks and respirators are being utilized around the world to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has reached more than 80,000 cases globally. A respirator covers at least the nose and mouth and protects against particles including infectious agents, the CDC said. However, the CDC does not recommend routine use outside of workplaces.

Facial hair poses a risk to the effectiveness of respirators because it may keep the exhalation valve from working properly if the two come into contact, the infographic said...

You mean... I have to cut my beard? I’ve had the thing since ‘78,
nobody knows what I look like without it, had it longer than been married

Let's scale the coronavirus ... to look like 9 million influenza cases ...

Coronavirus: 80,000 cases and 2800 deaths

8,000,000 cases and 280,000 deaths ???

And don't forget, there is NO vaccine for coronavirus

First, I'm gonna lose my Diet Coke.

Now the beard?

I'm gonna just have to say no. The beard stays.

I prefer long beards and long hair. They make good grab handles in a street fight.

If you do it right, and get a little wrist snap to it, they will spend the rest of their life with a walker or a wheel chair...

What? You didn't know?

If anything the fake news is underplaying the story. Just use your eyes and look at China. They have shutdown the country and economy for the last six weeks to try and get a handle on it, while lying about how bad it is. China’s economy will dramatically shrink for the first time in decades, and it risks (hopefully) toppling the government. Why would they do that if it was “just the flu”. It is obviously much much worse.

You aren’t taking into account.

1. Those likely are not the real numbers

2. The measures taken to slow the spread. Unprecedented. Quarantine of 100s of millions of people, travel restrooms, etc.

those aren’t in the US- where medicines are much better and more accessible than in china and other places-

?!?!?!?

China built a hospital in 10 days - it would take someone in the US years to acquire the land

We have no idea what the real statistics are.

There are estimates of scores of thousands of dead from the disease in China; and, we don’t know how those could be ranked according to age groups, climate areas, etc.

Neither do we know how many were infected to begin with.

Ergo, the virus may or may not affect the US as badly, but official Chinese figures would tell us nothing about it.

True, but china is absolutely slammed with patients, and the hospitals are overwhelemd, so people can’t get treatment there- so the deaths are gonna be higher- that’s why i say there are a lot of variables when tryign to compare say the flu to coronovirus- right now coronovirus is majority in china- and they are overwhelmed by it, so there’s gonna be more deaths, people are generally not as healthy there- (the older generations, those who are most likely to die, who didn’t get good nutrition, were dirt poor etc-)

We do have pretty advanced healthcare here- and loads of hospitals, so survival rates could be much better if the outbreak runs rampant here i n the US- so we should be cautious about trying to compare what happened in the past to what is taking place now- till more stats come in at least- there are just to many variables to make accurate comparisons at this point

You aren’t taking into account.

I agree there are lots of unknowns. But I wouldn't play down the potential threat this virus poses. I heard another medical 'expert' today express fascination with how quickly this virus is spreading.

We haven't seen a virus like this in 100 years ...

The MSM is out of control...as we all know.

Communist countries are not going to tell us the truth...

And our basically Socialist/Commie MSM is going to twist everything...

It's all Trumps fault, don't ya know.

They built a loafing shed in ten days.
Hardly what would be considered as a hospital.

It is nothing but a common cold.

This is a China, media and right-wing conspiracy to keep President Clinton from getting re-elected by crashing the market. China lock down billions of people in 10 cities and shut down all the factories for a common cold. 2615 people Hubei province died from the common cold.

Correction: left-wing conspiracy to keep President Trump from being re-elected. It was not China it was the Russians.

I have to go and take some Cold medicine.
