There is actually no way to tell how many flu cases there are each year. I have never gone to the doctor for the flu and have never reported it to the CDC. So the only figures that are realistic are deaths (as determined by a coroner) and hospitalizations (if reported).

What younger people would go to the hospital with the flu- very few people in my experience. - Tom
