Interesting.

There are several batteries built on Santa Rosa Island across from Pensacola. When visiting Fort Pickens one can also tour the batteries which dated from The Spanish American War.

There’s a Concrete WWII 155mm coastal gun mount overlooking the Panama City ship channel near the entrance on the west side. Another washed off a big sand dune hill & is resting on the beach about 200 yards west from the one still standing.

Here in NJ just below Sandy Hook there were coastal gun batteries. I think they were still there in the early '60s, having been replaced with Nike missile batteries.
