Exclusive: Wuhan resident reveals hospitals discharge unrecovered coronavirus patients
In the China’s official reports on the #coronavirus outbreak, are the “recovered patients” they publicize, really recovered? That’s not the case for one Wuhan resident we spoke with.
Her mom is infected. A hospital in #Wuhan sent her mom home despite the fact that she is still terribly ill. Doctors insist that her mom has “met the standard to be discharged.” They’ve only provided cough medicine.
Relative of a Wuhan Patient says, “Many people share our experience. They were discharged. Some had symptoms come back again after only a few days. Now their lives are in danger.”
She said even quarantine centers refuse to accept her mom because of her poor condition. So she can only stay home.
“[The officials promise] to accept all patients. But then they discharge those who are not fully recovered. Is the person carrying the virus? You can’t tell. Now they just discharge people like that. Will more infections happen because of this?”
A doctor’s post that’s been circulating online might explain why hospitals are so eager to discharge patients.
In this later deleted post, a verified doctor on this medical forum in China wrote/ that hospitals are now under pressure from officials to increase their patient turnover rates.
They were asked to discharge patients within 10 days, as long as the patients’
He said “Some patients were still on oxygen support and they could hardly walk—minutes before they were discharged as ‘recovered patients’.”
He also said that now “political correctness is above everything, including patients’ health and the public interest.”
The doctor said disease control in China now “walked on the path of a political movement.”
