they said that they left because of the new year to go “home” ..I don’t really get that..do they mean to visit family?

If so then people people also went to Wuhan to go visit family too..are those people stuck there then?

Or do the Chinese travel mostly to only a certain part of the country on new years? (not as much to Wuhan)

It’s like going home for Christmas/New Years. The Vietnam version is “Tet.”

So it is likely that a lot of folks go to other places in the country to visit their homestead. It is not dissimilar than people leaving NYC and LA to travel home.

I am sure some folks go to NYC, but not as many as those leaving. In any event—they are stuck where they are.
