Suicide can be “catching” amongst young people. When one happens, it puts the thought in their heads. They also see the resulting outpouring of love and crave that outpouring. The young feel intense pressure but are not experienced enough to put it in perspective. Very sad.
IIRC, there's a bump in teen suicides whenever a new, successful Romeo and Juliet movie comes out.
During my junior year at the University of Texas, the administration closed off the observation deck of the tower. It had become a popular suicide spot. There are always people on the edge, and looking for any kind of affirmation of suicide to give them the courage.
