I'm posting this because I was such a fan of the show and how the Black family was portrayed. For those who do not know, the father (John Amos) was written out of the script due to a contract dispute by fraud liberal Norman Lear. When the reason for the disappearance was his character running away with another woman the Mom, Esther Rolle, refused to return to the series if that was the storyline. Lear would not bend and Rolle also did not appear for the last season.
If only the family unit of today was as strong as that family was.

I used to watch The Jeffersons. I thought Ja'net Dubois and the daughter were both pretty hot*. I never knew Ja'net did the song for The Jeffersons!
*Esther Rolle had to be one of the least attractive stars of a show I have ever seen.

I’m a big fan of the show and the first three seasons are laugh-out-loud funny. Season 4 was ok, but the show was really on fumes during seasons 5 and 6. Ja’Net was amazing and I always thought she was beautiful.
The real problems for the show began with the JJ character breaking out. Rolle and Amos wanted the show to be funny, but still focus on serious issues. They both felt that the show became a mockery with all the attention given to JJ. Right or wrong, his “Dy-no-mite!” phrase was a winner and something to listen for every week. Jimmy Walker and John Amos have both talked about this issue, and how it affected the show.

It’s impossible to watch the dog food episode of “Good Times” without laughing your head off.
