Well the restrictor plate was changed last year to a tapered spacer but the effect remained the same, to slow the cars down. Before the restrictor plate use started in 1988 some cars were going over 210 mph, in fact the NASCAR record was 212.8 at Talladega in 1987 by Bill Elliot. The quest to control speed resulted in the problem we see however NASCAR could make rules like the F1 races use, they get fined for bumping and points against them i they do.
Personally, I’d like to see normal off the showroom cars run the race but I know that won’t happen, too much money involved.
“Crap like this does not happen in F1”
Bump drafting in a F1 car? Fiftytwo drivers in the F1
circuit have died in crashes. Twentyeight drivers in
the NASCAR series.
Awesome News...Racing is dangerous. Everytime you get into a race car (or a raceboat) it might be your last race or day.
I’ve heard drivers say that at the speeds they are going, the crash is far behind them before they even know it happened. That track is 2.5 miles around. They can’t turn their heads and have very limited rear vision.
Some report being airborne and the only way they know it is the lack of tire noise.
This was a racing deal. No one intended to tear his car up like that. Intentionally crashing another driver does happen on short tracks, never on superspeedways.
That picture is from before just before the second and far more vicious impact. If his helmet were already off he’d be dead. That’s the crunched c-pillar and the outside of the head restraint area of his seat.
It was a horrendous crash, but not the worst I’ve seen (video of). There have been many such crashes. Most times minor injuries.
All I’m saying is crashes like this are spectacular but not uncommon.
Everyone in their minds equate this with crashing the family car. These cars are essentially roll cages with flimsy sheet metal stuck on them. They just fall apart in an accident, but the roll cage protects the driver. The other parts of the car are just for looks and air flow.
One of the most spectacular was when Ricky (Crash) Craven went right into the catch fence. He went 40 feet in the air, 5 cars passed under him, then he smashed into the racetrack on the drivers side, and knocked around by several other cars. His car was DEMOLISHED! Minor injuries.
Saw him in an airport store once.
Here are some other examples. Change to 720p HD
Scary NASCAR crashes.

Seems odd. Why would he do this.
No, I missed that on tweeter. I have been banned for a week now.
Google Hamlins spotter. His name is Chris Lambert. He explains what happened.

Your point?
F1 has been around much longer than NASCAR - every F1 race has a series of left AND right turns (only three NASCAR tracks are road courses).
F1 cars are WAAAAAAY more powerful than any NASCAR vehicle and F1 NEVER forces restrictor plates to ‘even things out.’
NASCAR is Bernie Sanders, F1 is unbridled capitalism like Reagan and Trump.
Instead of all the hysterical, self aggrandizing and ignorant rantings that have gone on about this incident here at FR...who was at fault, who knew what and when.... here’s an interview with Hamlin on Tuesday morning.

These guys know the game. They woulldn’t climb in a
race car if was certain they were going to get hurt
or die in a crash. Any type of racing carries the risk.
I, like you, would be glad to see the restricter plates
disappear. As evidenced by Newman’s crash, the strides
of car safety have been great, but it’s the fan’s
safety that NASCAR is mainly concerned with.
