About 30 Broward schools could close, combine with other schools or convert into a new type of facility as the school district looks for ways to deal with nearly half-empty campuses.
Many of these schools are in the southern part of the county, from Hollywood to Pembroke Pines, where thousands of students have left for charter schools. Others are in the Fort Lauderdale area and have struggled with factors such as low student performance, outdated facilities and aging neighborhoods.
Most changes would likely take place in the fall of 2021, and district officials said affected communities would have opportunities to share their views in community forums and surveys before any decisions are made. The School Board plans to review some tentative ideas in May.
“This is not an easy conversation to have,” Superintendent Robert Runcie said.
Enrollment has dropped about 30,000 in the past 15 years, due mostly to charter schools and to a smaller degree private school vouchers. The demographics also have changed in Broward, where most growth is among adults without school-aged kids.

FYI----Obama hand-picked Runcie from the sewers of Chicago to be Supt of Schools w/ a salary and perks beyond reason.
Runcie was there to implement Obama's stupid plan to keep trouble-makers off the police dockets.....using cash rewards.
Do-nothing Runcie is the nincompoop in charge when 17 students and faculty were slaughtered.

There are a lot of charter shcools down there.
This is happening in many California communities, and tax payers are forcing the local education monopoly thugs to lay off teachers and to close schools.
I think it’s a conflict of interest for the government to run the schools. Citizens should be skeptical of their political leaders, not brainwashed by them. I think all the schools teach the Global Warming scam as fact.

salary and perks up the kazoo....then came the school slaughter.

The person on the right is Robert Runcie, Broward County school superintendent and the person on the left is Scott Israel, the county sheriff. The two men whose policies and/or actions were a great deal responsible for the tragedy that happened two years earlier around this time. And certainly the dropping enrollment in Broward schools continues to say a lot about Runcie himself.
I don't know but am thinking there is a clue in there somewhere.
