Here's a tune that created a little stir for the Country Gentlemen and for Rebel Records: Bringing Mary Home (1965). I was a senior in High School when this came out.

Duffy told me he got the idea for the song from watching a Twilight Zone episode.

I believe I saw this episode. John Duffy was the high tenor mandolin player, entertainer that put both the Country Gentlemen and the Seldom Scene on the charts. Sadly, he died much too young.

Both Duffy’s parents were singers with the Metropolitan Opera and they worked hard to secure him a place there to follow in their footsteps. He preferred his life as a bluegrass singer.

I got to see him perform live with the Seldom Scene several times. He was a great entertainer too.
