Rather than starting a separate thread- there is a blog containing a ton of info on the virus that most will find useful. It was pointed out to me by a FReeper last month, and it is definitely worth reading. Im not blog pimping here - not my zoo, not my monkey.
The guys website is https://thefurai.com/2020/01/23/the-truth-about-wuhan-coronavirus/.
The author of the site was initially rather skeptical of the virus, as the R0 seemed smaller than one. Over time, his thoughts have evolved.
Please take a minute or two to read that place.
There's not a lot repeated between them so they are both worth reading for those interested and willing to spend the time. This MD learned a lot from them including that the recent jump in numbers reported isn't from a jump in the disease, but from the Chinese recognizing their (and probably 'our') "test" was having a lot of false negatives, and switching to a clinical definition for having the disease. Now many more cases can be recognized officially. It says that quarantine is effective and our current best option and that masks haven't helped. It says a vaccine is unlikely to become a solution; and more importantly explains why vaccines work great against some viruses and poorly against others. And it says that an antiviral drug, developed against Ebola and there proven safe but alas ineffective, shows great promise for the severe cases.
