The strong showing by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary has moderate Democrats on Capitol Hill concerned that, if the self-described democratic socialist wins the partys presidential nomination, it could jeopardize efforts to protect their House majority and take control of the Senate.
Sanders and his allies, however, believe his campaign will spur voter turnout, helping Democrats in local and statewide races across the country.
But in interviews and private conversations with roughly a dozen House Democrats across the political spectrum, many told ABC News they feared that Sanders and his proposals, including Medicare-for-All, the Green New Deal and tuition-free college, could alienate independent voters in the suburbs and exurbs who helped deliver the House majority to Democrats in 2018.
It's a warning repeated by Sanders' opponents, including former Vice President Joe Biden and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
"They're terrified," Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., the first House Democrat to endorse Buttigieg, told ABC News of his colleagues' response to Sanders' rise. "Very few people see Bernie as electable."

Of course none of those “moderates” will be asked what they are going to do about the communist influence in their party.
There’s not a bit of difference among all of them. They each have the same radical communist platform. The only difference among them is age, gender, and the ability to speak extemporaneously without sounding like a blithering idiot (Joe Biden).
They dont like Bernie because although the end goal is the same, the dhims believe Bernies all socialism right now is an existential threat to their multi decade carefully laid incrementalism
I don’t believe this is a widely held opinion by democrats.
If the a large fraction of the democrats were worried, they’d get a Joe Manchin to run. He is a “perceived” moderate.
No, they’re doubling down that Trump is damaged goods and anyone can beat him.
They prefer the hidden communists to the open communist. It’s not just independent voters that they fear, but also sane honest democrats, especially those who vote straight ticket but will not even come out for the secondary elections if the presidential candidate is a communist.
The old media is now working hard to perpetuate the myth of the great moderate democrat president. He/She/It doesn’t exist.
It should worry Republicans more than Democrats.
‘Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., a “centrist” ‘ who voted with Chuck Schummer 87% of the time ... there’s no such thing as a “centrist” or “moderate” in the Democrat party ... period ...
