
Translating to my best ability, a person's position is anchored to a spectrum that stretches from factual to feeling. The closer the anchor is to the feeling end, the greater the resistance to argument in the contrary. The closer to the factual, the easier it is to ignore.
Also, it is futile to argue about goals.
When you have two people with the same goals, they can have rational discussions about the optimal way to achieve the goal. But when they have wildly different goals (e.g. “achieving equality” vs “keeping my family safe and prosperous”) no such discussion is workable.
Worse is when one party has a hidden agenda, because you are not addressing his real agenda.
