Stranded tourists danced in celebration today as the pariah cruise ship Westerdam was finally given permission to dock in Cambodia after five countries turned it away over coronavirus fears.

The Westerdam was denied entry by Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines and the US territory of Guam despite the crew's insistence there were no cases on board.

But today cruise operator Holland America announced that Cambodia had granted approval for the ship to dock.

The 1,455 passengers and 802 crew are now expected to return to dry land in Sihanoukville tomorrow morning before flying home via Phnom Penh.

If the 1,455 passengers and 802 crew fly home from Cambodia, then what happens to the ship?

Personally, I would consider it unsafe to board, for at least four weeks.

On this deal...you have to wonder what Cambodia said was the docking fee. I’ll bet it was three times the normal amount.

If the reports are be believed, that no one on the ship is sick and all have been screened, this has been a case of pure paranoia. I also suspect that Cambodia has been given extra payment or other incentive to allow the ship to dock.

The ironic thing is if there are no cases on board, staying out at sea would be the safest place on earth to be from the virus.
