Latin pop artist Jennifer Lopez responded to critics who felt that her Super Bowl halftime show with Shakira was too sexy, saying the criticism is silliness and contending that the performance was a celebration of women."
Both of us are really respectful performers who are moms and have kids and are very conscious of what we do, Lopez told Variety. We [put on] a show that I believe was a celebration of women and our Latino culture that I think was really well reserved. And that small fraction of people who want to be negative about it, I cant even let in.
Thats honestly silliness, Lopez said, adding that the dance carried a message of standing up for yourself, being a woman.
Thats what I want to pass on to little girls everything about you be proud of it. Im very proud of the performance that night.
Featuring several of their most well-known songs from over the years, the two artists danced at Super Bowl LIV, which was held in Miami this year, with lots of hip-shaking and were at points barely clothed around stripper poles. Lopez's daughter also sang. Criticism followed.
Ryan Bomberger, co-founder of The Radiance Foundation, argued that "Latino culture was not celebrated during the Pepsi Halftime Show; it was exploited."
"Funny how in this #MeToo era, entertainers seem to vie to be as naked and as sexual as possiblenot on a directors couchbut in front of over a hundred million sets of eyes. J-Lo, Shakira, Pepsi and the NFL let down a generation of girls and boys who deserve so much better than the fake feminism on full display Sunday night," he said.
John Stonestreet, president of the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, called this year's performance "by far the raciest halftime since Beyonce."
"In the midst of our cultures ubiquitous calls to protect kids and women from abuse and harassment, especially in this #MeToo era, we pretend that as long as we call it 'art' or 'female empowerment,' that this sort of overt sexualization will magically have none of the consequences we now complain about," Stonestreet said.
Some compared the performance with some social scourges and sex trafficking that frequently occurs at major sporting events.
We wonder why the Super Bowl is a hotbed of sex trafficking...meanwhile we applaud for literal pole dancing during the halftime show. Degrading women has tragic cultural consequences, commented One American News Network host Liz Wheeler.
Kristen Ruby, a commentator and president of Ruby Media Group, tweeted, You call it dancing and entertainment. I call it what it is: softcore porn. Our society is really crumbling.
We live in interesting times. In an time when the most explicit pornography imaginable is freely available over the internet we somehow get all moralistic about dancers in skimpy outfits. When mainstream movies and cable TV contain language and sex scenes that are as close to the line of pornography as they can get its hard to understand the outrage over JLos butt shaking. Does anyone remember Paris in 1890 with the popularity of the can-can. Or the sexual energy expressed by Rita Moreno and the other cast in West Side Story? Its a matter of degree, not kind.
The evolutionary struggle that we are going through is profound as well as somewhat amusing. Women have achieved enormous success in almost all aspects of business, law, entertainment, medicine, and politics. Yet, despite this success they continue to be valued on their physical attributes for sexual attractiveness. It should not be an either/or choice. Women and men can celebrate their intellectual achievements without being afraid of the enormous power of human sexuality especially women’s unique qualities that have moved civilizations since time immemorial.
The collapse of Victoria’s Secret sales because of their vague corporate ties to Jeffery Epstein show’s how the sentiments of women can change quickly when they feel at risk. But we shouldn’t pretend that this dynamic between men and women is not part of the joy of life and celebrate its good qualities without rejecting the power games that men (and women) play around it.
Anyone who is uncomfortable with what’s on their TV is free to change channels or turn it off. Just don’t try to keep the people that don’t have a problem with it from having their fun. And thanks for those great GIFs from the show.
Whatever over priced whore............
You are disgusting and filthy, my dogs have more dignity than you. You are a shameless skank.
I remember a saying about girls like you.......
They will soon switch to the trannies doing the show.
I think you're absolutely right. The trannies are inbound. They will have trannies dancing on stage with children. 🤡🌎
This thread is NSFW...!
Is there some irony in the fact that the NFL isnt showing close ups of the cheerleaders but will show a crotch shot of these skanks at halftime?
I havent watched a football game since the early 90s the Derrick Thomas days but being from around Kansas City thought I would watch the stupid bowl.
I did not expect anything like that. I did turn it off and missed the second half. Oh well, I have two sons that are Marines and one foster son that is a soldier so isnt like I want to support the NFL.
At the time the halftime show was on, I told my wife it looked like a mass of writhing demons worshiping Satan in the 7th level of hell.
Muscle doesn’t jiggle like that... Disgusting fat globs certainly do...
My impression of most of the top females musical performances is they are a bunch of Burlesque Queen wannabes.
Asking a Hollywood whore if a performance is too “revealing” is like asking Bonnie & Clyde if bank security is too lax.
Somehow the pole between her legs negates much of what she says.
What a slut show. Congrats Jennifer whomever you are.
Pathetic.
Why not celebrate the Super Bowl LVI! Like all libs, self centered, ego bigger than she knows how to handle.
Please... do you even look at yourself?
You are dancing on stripper poles, with camera angles so far up your crotches, the lenses now have Herpes.
Far from a prude, but to say that wasn’t hyper sexualized and just a celebration of women, is like saying a violent rapist is just engaging in a celebration of masculinity.
