I like him second only to Genghis Khan. My opinions are not very well liked, though. ;)
What I find most fascinating about Sherman, was that during his famous Georgia campaign, he carried with him the relevant census reports from 1860.
With this information, his troops were able pinpoint the most prosperous farms. They were amazed at the amount of food and provisions that were NOT going to Confederate troops.
