I haven't seen anyone from the cruise line, that has stated any such thing. If so, yes they have probably lied. Cruise lines have been caught in many lies in the past.

I didn't see them crying at all. Where did you see them crying? According to the article, they are not the only ones complaining.
In fact, I just watched several interviews with other various passengers calling it a "Floating Prison" and unless you paid a fortune for one of the few suites, with a balcony, it's not good. But even the suites are not allowed room service. What little food you get, is left outside your door.
