During the Clinton '90s, police ran in large groups to every verbal domestic quarrel neighbors would call them to and arrested each man who owned firearms. Then they would put the firearms on public display in the news along with a count of all ammunition. The media would harp about how many rounds the man had to imply as to how dangerous he could be. Sheds were called bunkers by the media people, etc.

See how that works? Most voters now are oblivious to it.
