In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.

The flu season here in the US is really 4 months, Dec thru March but it's really shorter than even that (for the majority of the cases. So while they're talking 30,000 cases in China we had 42.9 million people with the Flu in the US last year. Now, I don't believe the 42 million estimate because that's 1 in 6, not that many people get the flu. Still, that's a huge number, so Coronavirus right now isn't spreading as fast, not even close, not even in China as the common flu.

According to the CDC there has only been 1957 actual flu deaths. There were almost 50,000 pneumonia deaths.
