It’s easy to flip party affiliation up to 30 days before the election.

I don’t know. But I was wondering if Trump got any write-in votes in Iowa and whether they were allowed.

It probably wouldn’t do any good. There are no delegates committed to Donald Trump, and even if they were, they wouldn’t be seated. Some years ago, a couple of LaRouche delegates got elected in Ohio and the DNC refused to seat them. Attorneys for DNC actually argued that the Voting Rights Act didn’t apply to their convention - it was reminiscent of them refusing to seat black delegates some 20 years or so earlier.

It would not work in Maine. You have to be enrolled in the party that you are seeking the nomination for. The ballots would be thrown out/considered blank in counting.

Also in Maine a write in candidate to be declared at least 45 days before an election.
