The reason his religion is pictured as a problem is because he was a carpetbagger from another state and became senator of Utah only because of his religion. The only other carpetbagger that I can think of that comes into a state and immediately is elected to the US Senate was Hillary and it was because of New York’s state religion ,liberalism.

bboise, you have hit the nail on the head. But there is a movement in Utah to recall him; so it's not cool that others are blaming religion.

Like the effort it will send a message to him but that’s it. Recall efforts have been struck down in two federal court cases & one state court. Recall will likely take a constitutional amendment.

Now having said the above, Clarence Thomas (I think I remember reading he commented on this!) thinks there might be a way if one structures the argument around the 9th & 10th amendments. Hasn’t been tried, hope the legal beagles involved in this are thinking about along those lines.
