My 75 year old father, who has been sick all of 8 hours in his entire life, is a big believer in hot toddies at the first sign of not feeling well. I’m all for it.
Whenever I caught a cold as a child, if I was in my grandparents’ house, I was given a rub with Vick’s and a hot toddy with whiskey. Worked every time.
My Dad was a firm believer in a hot toddy for a cold and other like problems. His heated favorite was “Rock & Rye” whiskey fortified with honey. This “medicine” was given to young and old alike. IT WAS A GREAT CURE! YUMMY!
My wife believes in them.
If I am going to be sick I might as well be buzzed.

80 don’t EVER remember missing a day because of being sick AND that includes self imposed sickness(hangover—was a time I didn’t get ‘sober’ enough to get a hangover).
Had a hernia op in 1959 in Japan, and cataracts in 2007.
Guess time to get my post op checkup.
Got a buddy that really wants to see me come down with ‘something’ as every time he says he isn’t feeling good I taunt him with ‘Got that flu shot huh?’ Really does whizz him off that I don’t get the flu or whatever shots.
Grew up in a family of Mother, Father, 5 aunts and 1 uncle all RNs and never did really hear of ANY good MDs growing up...
I can’t even credit ‘booze’ for my good fortune as I haven’t had a drop for 30 years....
My last physical —before the Cataracts - which was my last— was getting out of the Navy and I sort of remember being handed a slip of paper with scheduled appointments etc which would stretch out a few days OR the ‘release’ form that would have you at the main gate almost immediately after signing..
Knock on wood....or something....
It has yet to work for me, but I keep trying;-).
When I was a little kid, that’s what dad gave me.
Not sure if it was to put me out of my misery or his.
:)
My grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher. He always kept a bottle of bourbon in the house for ‘medicinal purposes only’. If we were sick we got the whiskey, honey, and lemon treatment.
