We have friends happily married 50 years who have separate accounts...he’s a financial guy...she’s a dork with numbers...so...sometimes IT IS better...but I think it can be a trust problem ...and frankly I never wanted a separate account...makes things More complicated. Altho these days being married doesn’t seem to mean much to financial institutions. ..you have to get Permission for each other to talk to, or access the others accounts. It’s crazy.

The “others accounts” means what we thought were JOINT accounts.

in today’s day and age of stepparents and stepkids its often better to have separate accounts. Especially when bioparent indulges in disney parent spending.
