Truth be told, historically, far more Native American tribes fought allied on the side of US military than fought against it.

American Indians were historically in a constant state of conflict, if not open warfare, with each other. It was brutal and unspeakable atrocities and torture was the norm.

Many tribes. allied themselves with colonists for mutual protection against the more aggressive attackers.

While it is undeniable that disease killed many native Americans, disease also killed many colonists as well. Genocide was not the norm and many of the Native Americans simply were assimilated into colonial life .

In short, they are not gone, they are us

“It was brutal and unspeakable atrocities and torture was the norm.”

I am getting so sick of this ignorant deceptive lie. It is dishonest to use universal stereotypical statements like this for ALL tribes based on the rare incidents of the very few. Like cannibalism... there is only ONE possible find of evidence for this among North American tribes and it was not themselves, it was the Toltecs who came north from Mexico. To include the Northern tribes as also guilty of the acts from Mezoamerican and South American tribes is blind ignorance of real historical fact. This perception is based on the Hollywood western movies, just like shootouts at noon, it only actually happen like twice.

Even the “savage” Iroquois Confederacy government it’s self was used as an example and inspiration when our own government was constructed. The stereotyping and false history out there about North American tribes is just incredible. the North American tribes did nothing any worse than what was done in the old world, and yes, even brutal and unspeakable atrocities and torture was a norm. Even worse... much was done in the name of a divine leader or religion.
