I bought Malwarebytes Premium when I purchased my computer and it has worked fine although the one time it “found” a problem was with a program I *wanted* to install and turned out to be a false positive.
I saw a YouTube video where some techie dumped every virus and malware on their computer all at once with Malwarebytes installed and it pretty much hosed the computer but I asked myself “how likely is that to ever happen?”
You are apparently disappointed that you are finding nothing.
Here are some tips. Before running your software, do the following three things:
a. Spend lots of time surfing porn sites. While there click on any and every link offered.
b. Go to those sites that offer hacked software, such as the latest versions of MS Word or Adobe Photoshop. Download as much of their software as you can, and click on all their advertising links.
c. Now leave your computer on and connected to the internet for a couple days.
Finally, run your Malwarebytes and SpyBot. You will be very happy that they actually found something.
Good post, I use this model and find exactly what you say...
The other important element is the browser you use as it is the typical way that infections enter. Rarely do I see a virus get past and if one tries it is embedded in a piece of software I am trying which once discovered gets them off the list no matter how “useful” they seem. I like Opera but moving to the newer replacement Vivaldi developed by the same folks but a part of the whole defensive schema I utilize.
Currently evaluating BitDefender as a tool for this and other “lay in wait” types of attacks, looks good and finds things others flew right over
“get the Malwarebytes Premium. Yes you have to buy it.”
I just bought it for my Win 7 machine. Works great and is fast scanning.
I only surf the web using Linux on my computers, all dual boot. I don’t run any virus protection at all, haven’t been infected in 15 years of use.
Get and pay for Malwarebytes Premium; it protects. Also, I use Norton 360 and it truly works on many levels.
LOL!
You can download the free Microsoft Safety Scanner (MSERT.EXE), but it is only valid for 10 days.
It’s FR. Everyone is still using XP
I follow that advice every year or so. It’s easy and quick if you plan it right.
I use the MacOSX version of Linux. Ditto.
What's a scan??
Nah, it’s too much of a resource hog. I’ll stick with Win98 SP2.
Because who needs USB anyway?
(Sarcastic, but I do have a win98 box in the spare room somewhere)
As to the original question - you should be happy your machine is clean. Also, the free Windows Defender built-in software works fine.
Never heard of Glary Utilities but I did the download based on you liking it. Thanks Bsdger.
Windows 10 here, set like win7. Browsers and windows defender are so good now that I don’t let any after market software run at startup, that stuff just hogs system and memory to make you think they are doing you good, I mean they even make their scans take longer than is needed. I do use advanced system care free to clean the registry and system occasionally, but do not let it control any aspect of my personal confuser. In the old days pc’s were not behind physical firewalls like they are now, now you have to control the software that you have installed, it will leak so much info about you if you let it. Firefox now has or uses Commodo firewall software built in.

Super Anti-Spyware Free
Avast Antivirus Free
Advanced System Care Free
IOBit Uninstaller Free
Been using those on all my computers for years without any problems.
(Except my Linux computers.)
I use Avast Free and Iobit Malware Fighter Free. Keep them up to date and scan at least weekly. Have never had a problem (though I also practice safe computing - not taking risks).
Too funny!
I held onto XP until the computer died then did the same with Win7 - Win10 isn’t the nasty bugaboo they all worried about.
