it’s a new policy or something. They say because my driveway does not loop, and its more than 200 feet long for walking, they can’t come up to the house.

the drivers are no longer allowed to use reverse.

Put a box 200ft in with a key.

Have them leave the key in the box with the package.

You have the other key.

“the drivers are no longer allowed to use reverse”

too many backing accidents,ATT and UPS have the same policy or similar.

Can you create a loop of some type or just build a big wether proof wooden box for the end of the drive, next to the regular box, label it US Mail pkgs

Your long driveway is a liability. Plain and simple.

Can you build a large box and have them leave it there?

FWIW, a friend of my wife’s who is the postmaster of a small rural office said you don’t need a full loop, just an area that’s “all weather”, i.e. gravel, where they can turn around without backing up. Maybe you can widen the end of the drive with gravel on each side or something.

It is a safety thing. Many companies are not allowed to back up anymore. If a carrier hits something backing up they can be fired. Can you imagine what would happen if a child was backed over? Also if your house is more than 1/4 of mile from the road, they will not bring packages up to the house. Believe me this is not the carrier making the decisions.
