Moscow furious after Ukraine leader points out Soviet collusion with Nazis

The Kremlin reacted with fury on Tuesday after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Soviet collusion with Nazi Germany led to the outbreak of World War II.

While visiting Poland on Monday to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz death camp, Zelensky said the Poles “were the first to feel the consequences of the criminal collusion of the totalitarian regimes.”

Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union invaded and carved up Poland in September 1939 under a secret clause of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. The Nazi invasion prompted Britain and France to declare war on Germany.

“We categorically disagree with this statement,” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, accusing Zelensky of backing the “highly erroneous” position of Poland on the historical events. The Soviet collaboration with the Nazis remains highly sensitive in the ex-Soviet bloc and frequently crops up in political rhetoric.

Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Russian parliament’s upper house, accused Zelensky of betraying the Ukrainians who helped liberate Europe and delivering a blow to Russian-Ukrainian ties.

Last month, Putin accused Poland of colluding with Hitler and contributing to the outbreak of World War II, sparking new tensions between Moscow and Warsaw.

I thought that was a well established fact of world history.

I’m pretty sure most people know Nazi Germany invaded Poland on Sept. 1, 1939. But I’m not sure the same number of people know the Russians, as per agreement invaded Poland on Sept.17, 1939.

They don't. And they tend to be the same people that call them "Polish Death Camps."

A lot of anti-Polish Ukrainians as well. The UPA killed over a hundred thousand Poles during the war.

Poland and Ukraine are the two countries conspicuous in their absence from the 75th Auschwitz Liberation anniversary gathering in Jerusalem this month.

That's very misleading.

Polish President Andrzej Duda hosted the 75th anniversary event on the site in Poland. And Ukraine's President Zelensky was also at that event.

Putin is stating the Pat Buchanan line that by signing an agreement with Britain and France, Poland forced Germany’s hand.

As reprehensible as the Ribbentrop Molotov Pact was, the Soviet actions during the Warsaw Uprising were even worse.

The Ukrainians are, mostly, virulent anti-Semites. They despise the Jews.

You believe the Fake News?

Geez!

Zelensky is Jewish. He attended the real ceremony, where the atrocities actually occurred, in Poland.

Stalin was suppling Hitler with vital resources as the Panzers sat across the channel waiting for the RAF to be eliminated.

Thing is with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the USSR was basically taking back “Russian Poland” which was lost at the end of WWI. What’s amazing is they got to pretty much keep the part of Poland at the end of WWII. Poland was “shifted” to the west. It’s hard to blame the Poles for being bitter.

The leaders of Ukraine and Poland did NOT attend the event in Jerusalem commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Russian liberation of Auschwitz and were conspicuous in their absence.

What is misleading are attempts here to suggest otherwise.

And before Barbarossa, the Communists in the US were the most staunch isolationists.
