My Scotty dog hates groundhogs. A few years ago he got in a fight with one and Gus bit off one the groundhogs little front paws then went for the throat. I picked Gus up and the groundhog didn't know what hit him. He was just laying there clicking his teeth. I scooped him up with a shovel and lifted him over the fence and off he went into the field.

Scottish terriers were originally bred to hunt Eurasian badgers. Groundhogs would actually be smaller prey by comparison.
