One problem with your theory: The witness process will be that each witness will be proposed one at a time, and the Senate will then vote to approve or deny each witness in turn.
That there are enough turncoat RINOs to force witnesses in the first place means that there are enough RINO votes to block each Trump witness while approving every Dem witness.
The only fair way is to negotiate an entire list of all witnesses, and then have the Senate vote on that list.
