I didn’t know much about him, but from what I’ve seen, he must have been a good man.

He had his faults and made mistakes in his younger days (don’t we all ? ), but he owned up to them and tried to totally redeem himself after that and in that, he totally succeeded.
He attended church, so one must assume that he feared/revered God, and loved his family.
