Never been in a helicopter, but it seems to me, visual. ..would he just as important as instruments. ?

I don’t think it’s that easy in a helicopter. The problem is most helicopter pilots are Line of site pilot and not instrument. To me the Stevie Ray Vaughn rule is #1. Never fly in crappy weather!
