There’s video footage on instagram of the chopper going down. As I posted in the other thread, I’m no expert but this is how it looked: The whole craft was spinning wildly, and it looked like the main blade was still spinning. The chopper dropped fast and crashed with a big fireball. That area is very popular for hiking, so you could hear people screaming and strating to cry in the background. Pretty rough to watch.

I think I saw that video too and it wasn't from today because the background is nothing but dirt and the photos I saw of the scene from further down in the canyon showed greenery on the hills. Maybe it was the one from (IIRC Afghanistan maybe) with that helo crash.

Stuff gets weird when everyone rushes to be the first to report something catastrophic like this.

Loss of tail rotor?

If the aircraft was spinning, then it apparently lost control of it’s tail rotor. The TR counters the direction of spin imparted by the main rotor blades so that the aircraft can fly straight.
