Decades ago in St. Louis, a local newsman was interviewing the author of the play, “The River Niger”. He mispronounced the word when he was introducing the author. I’m not sure how a professional reader did that, but the author corrected him and they moved on, although the newsman had a horrified look on his face for a moment. I don’t recall any big stink being made about it; the only reason I knew about it is I was watching when it happened.

Sounded like a slip, but so what? Many if not most blacks say it all the time. Certainly more than whites ever did. It’s either a bad word or it isn’t.

I agree it was an innocent blunder (most women have no idea about the names of sports teams) but if the lady was from FoxNews or some other conservative network, there would be the usual outcry for her scalp and her life (at least on social media) would be ruined. Her children would have to change their names and go to other schools.
Sad...let’s just get past it. Two people died. That’s what it’s about...

Big story talk real fast, assume your important, screw up and use the wrong team name, realize it sounded bad, and cya. News people do stupid stuff all the time. Big freakin deal. Too bad a man and his daughter and others died. RIP
