That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking, the JFK Jr comparison.
Someone was overconfident and flying in conditions where they should have remained on the ground.
KNX is saying that there was another pilot on board besides Kobe. I don’t know how it can be known who was at the yoke since Kobe was licensed and often flew the helo. It was his personal Sikorsky S76, not something he hired for the day.
Or the pilot was flying at a fixed altitude, got lost in the fog, and didn't realize that the ground was coming up on him.
