While this may surprise many, there is actually an old dispute between historians over the intentionality of the Holocaust. In academic circles, it is called the Intentionalism vs. Functionalism debate. Intentionalists simply argue the Nazis intended to annihilate the Jews all along consistent with their oft-repeated statements, and finally took seriously their plans to do so from 1938 onwards. Functionalists, on the other hand, strongly argue that in spite of the earlier violent shrills of Nazis rhetoric against the Jews, the Holocaust itself occurred in a rather ad hoc manner based largely on differing and evolving circumstances that became increasingly radicalized into a gigantic snowball of sorts that could not be stopped once it started rolling down the mountainside, creating wider and wider swaths of destruction the farther it went downslope ....

It was not the point of the article. Yes, of course, Belarussians and Ukrainians in particular also suffered greatly during the war. But, the Nazis also considered Soviet Communism to be what they called Judeo-Bolshevism, so it is not surprising that the Jews were especially targeted in particular. Polish Jewry was essentially wiped out, but one cannot say that of the Poles in general. Almost 1/3 or more of the Belarussian population was killed I have heard, but a sizable portion of that body count were Jews. But yes, of course, if the Nazis had won, the killing would have continued that would have included millions more of Slavs. Himmler estimated 30 million Slavs would have to go after the war was over.
Yes, there were thousands of camps scattered everywhere throughout occupied Europe.

According to Nazi documentation, the Polish race was to eradicated within 30 years, through sterlization and other methods, but they could be used a slave labor through that time.
