sorry for the all caps, their idea, not mine. Why would they do this? I’d assume the editors of the major scientific journals know what they are doing.

They are looking to get the first look. They know what’s what in their world. There are all sorts of IP rights and contracts that are usually considered. This move gives more people access to information, while at the same time they are giving the researchers “cover” for sharing secrets.
Time is critical now. It’s so serious that human science is opening its doors. Very rare event. Usually all science we see has to go through approved censors first. Called ‘reviewers’ by the state. Its how they got the false global warming theory so far.
