(Reuters) - About 8.9 million TV viewers watched the U.S. Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump on Wednesday, the first day Democrats laid out their case against the president, marking a significant drop from the roughly 11 million viewers who watched on Tuesday, according to Nielsen ratings data. The audience includes viewership from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm EST on Walt Disney Cos ABC, AT&T Incs CNN, ViacomCBSs CBS, Comcast Corps NBC and MSNBC, and Fox Corps Fox News. The trial continued until 9:43 p.m. EST that night. The third presidential impeachment trial in U.S. history is unlikely to end with a vote that removes Trump from office, as Republicans who control the Senate have continually voiced support for the president.

How are people watching this anyway? Don’t they work?
LOL. I was wondering the same. Even if I had the time, I still wouldn’t watch it. Waste of time.
Every time they open their mouth they are creating evidence of their lying for the Trump team
My mom watched the entire O.J. trial...why, i don’t know.
Maybe if the Fake News Media started screaming for Biden, Biden, Atkinson and the CIA SPY, Schiff and his Staff and anyone else the SPY had contact with before the complaint was made, to testify, they could get viewers??
“Waste of time.”
Actually, its a education of sorts. A study of how pathological liars operate.
Of course, one could just watch the clips to learn that.
The figure probably includes a lot of old folks in nursing homes who are wheeled in front of the tv set and have absolutely no idea what they are watching. I remember when my beloved mom was in one, and they moved her to the second floor (always a bad sign); I walked in one afternoon and the attendants had about 20 of the residents watching the movie Psycho with the volume turned up as high as you could get it. On second thought, I think they would rather watch the crazed Anthony Perkins than the crazed Adam Schiff or Fatman Nadler.
I turned it on twice both times Sh*ff was on. All he was doing was lying. Unbelievable. MY thoughts were how can somebody go on national TV and blatantly lie like that, how do they sleep at night???
Must be hiding something really BIG!
They are probably counting every last person who walking into an airline terminal and glanced at one of the ubiquitous CNN television screens.
My tolerance for watching this Dem food fight went to zero the first day. Eech!
Who said they were watching? At least half were on mute waiting for regular programming, maybe more.
They probably add the pass throughs at the airline clubs in the terminals as well. I have complained to American Airlines every time I see CNN on in an Admirals Club that I am not paying for their damned propaganda; they have responded to mine and other complaints by balancing it with Fox on a second tv.
Someone needs to MST3K impeachment, and add a BS meter.
Sheesh. TV types have no imagination anymore.
Well, that one was a little more entertaining.
This could be a ratings and ad revenue bonanza if handled imaginitively...
It’s too worthless to watch even if you are a political animal, even those Senators who are forced to be thee seem to take a lot of bathroom breaks.
That is if I am finished cutting up this big ol Oak tree that blew down during the last hurricane.
I suspect most people like myself don’t watch sporting events where they know the outcome likewise anyone who can muster small bit of objective thought coupled with some common sense can see president Trump will be aquitted if not found innocent. It’s a circle jerk waste of time that makes most people bored, disgusted, and angry.
I’m interested in the impeachment drama but am not about to watch the trial in real time, so I don’t know what audience size for the trial proves.
