How was the back-alley abortions so much more horrendous than the ones given today by “professionals”.

I remember vividly, back in the early 60’s, a cover picture in LIFE magazine of a dead woman on the lawn of a hospital. She had tried to abort her baby and and she died before reaching the front doors of the hospital. Things like that, and the story of the AZ woman (a HUGE story) who had taken Thalidomide (available in Europe for morning sickness) and wanted an abortion due to the likelihood of birth defects, are the reason that abortion was decriminalized in this country. Again, the Media manipulating the hearts and minds of the American people. So sad.
